Through my involvement with Muskogee Bridges Out of Poverty, I came to realize what a major issue transportation is for people fighting to overcome generational poverty. In Muskogee Oklahoma, “transportation” means only one thing, automobiles. Public transit is sparse and hard to fit into a working person’s schedule and budget.
As a board member of BOP, I got to be involved in the presentation of a donated car to one of our graduates. It was one of the most moving and inspirational things I have ever witnessed. It was a life changer for the recipient and has helped her transition from poverty to the middle class.
After witnessing this exchange, I became determined to repeat the experience with other graduates. I have always been a car guy, so Advantage AutoWorks provides a perfect outlet to help others.
The first car was an unsolicited donation made by a local family. This unselfish act was the inspiration for this program. If you have an extra vehicle you would like to donate, we can provide a tax certificate for the full retail value of the vehicle. Clear out some space in your garage, get a tax deduction, and most importantly, change a life.
